Submission Rules:
- Contestants must be between the ages of 16 and 65.
- Designs must be kept simple. (Keep in mind that a flag should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory).
- Use meaningful symbolism. The flag’s images, colors, or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes.
- Use two or three basic colors. Limit the number of colors on the flag to three that contrast well and come from the standard color set.
- No lettering or seals. Never use the writing of any kind or an organization’s seals.
- Be distinctive or be related. Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections.
- Along with design submissions, contestants are required to provide a full summary of their design or illustration explaining why the following was chosen:
- Flag/Symbol Details: Color Theme, Illustration, Symbol(s), and Design Layout
- Summarization: Your summary must include a detailed description of each element listed above and why it is included in your layout. It would be beneficial to include your sources of inspiration. Also, be clear and concise about what you hope to inspire in and of the world through your flag design.
- Design Elements: Some flags include print, fabric cloth, embroidery, or even patchwork. Please be certain to provide a clear depiction of how you envision this flag hanging in full display. Be as detailed as possible about each element required to bring this image to life.
- Designs must include a .jpg or .pdf for reference.
- Embedded images must be included separately (ex. .tiff files).
- Designs must be submitted as the actual size.
- Designs with more than two layers must be submitted as a full .psd file, and not as a flattened .jpeg.
